All little girls begin life as a sparkle in their Daddy’s eye and I was no different. My life loosely equates to the most spectacular amusement park- spreading over multiple continents with the most eclectic line up and play list imaginable!
“The Early Years”… were spent clod-hopping throughout Europe: castles, vineyards, festivals, free thinking and power lifting meets (YES, you did read that correctly). My life was centered on music, art and supporting one another as a community. We moved back to the U.S. and my bubble was popped and my world shattered. Reality hit me like a brick chucked at the back of my head! What do you mean I am not “normal”? My life is not “normal”? How I think is not “normal”? You would have thought someone would have given me a heads-up! I turned into the little engine that could! Damn it! I WOULD fit in! I bought the Sassoon jeans (I really wanted to shove them places where the sun doesn’t shine!), the high-top (bubblegum pink) Reeboks and jelly bracelets! I learned EVERYTHING I could about this mainstream “cool” and about their revolting Top 40 music! I had to have something to impress them with at the lunch table. I swore I would NEVER let them know my secret! I would run home and rip that crap off! I changed into my Cure concert tee, olive drab mens sports coat (with rolled sleeves), ankle boots and leggings! It was a safe and beautiful world- filled with Bauhaus, Joy Division, The Water Boys, Siouxsie…X! I was a NEW WAVER and my little light was slowly being snuffed out!
“The Transitional Years”… were spent moving throughout the U.S. like Gypsies. By the time I had reached junior high I had reclaimed myself and found my faith through a can of Aqua Net, a black eyeliner pencil, a Rolling Stone Magazine and the pair of Original Doc Martens that I waited two months to have shipped to me! I attended Art School and QUICKLY found my path! By the early 1990′s the little glimmer in my heart (that was almost lost) had been cultivated into a full-fledged star! My family was found within music, art, beauty and fashion! Funny… that is where it was to begin with!
“The Glory Years Continue”… and are spent living, breathing and working in the industry to this very day. Those who were at one time my idols had somehow metastasized into a normal and intimate part of my world. I finally figured out who my true friends and family are.
“Qualified?”… I have lived the lives of 15. I have toured, created, produced, represented, polished and educated. I have fought for my country and for my life. I have been on, beside, in front of and built the stage. I have been in the model room, design floor, set, band room, hospitality room, press box executive suite and recording studio. I have lived in the penthouses and the ditches. I am humbled and blessed by my life experiences and would not give up one package of Ramen Noodles for it…because this little girl has been a twinkling star for long enough and is ready to come to fruition as a Super Nova!
